Neighbourhood Action Group News

Charney Bassett now has a second member on the Group with Mike Cox replacing the late Peter Davies as Parish Council representative..

At the last meeting Adam Slocombe from the Thames Valley Probation Service gave a talk on the Community Payback Scheme. Community Payback is a punishment option for offenders, usually unpaid manual labour. It is strictly enforced and is a way of requiring an offender to repay society in a highly visible way whilst at the same time helping the individual develop new skills. Communities can suggest suitable projects for inclusion in their work programme, for example :-

- painting and decorating community centres,
- refurbishing playgrounds and leisure facilities,
- clearing overgrown foliage,
- clearing rubbish,
- landscaping and planting,
- environmental and conservation projects.
Mike has promised to brief the Parish Council on the scheme.
Further information is available on request.

Further action has been taken to try and resolve road safety concerns outside Hanney School for children crossing the road to travel westwards. As reported previously the County Council has agreed to provide funding for a school crossing warden. Unfortunately the post remains vacant despite extensive advertising. Additional improvements to road safety markings outside the school have been negotiated.
