Charney Army
The Charney Army is an ad hoc group of villagers who carry out simple construction and maintenance work round the village and help keep footpaths clear. Set up originally by Peter Davies, anyone can be a member and if you have a fork, spade, mower, strimmer, axe or chainsaw, and a few hours to spare, you are very welcome to join the group. Anyone arriving with a tractor or JCB will achieve immediate promotion to commissioned officer or we might even let you run the show! We usually meet on the second and the last Thursday of each month between 10.00am and midday. Proposed activities are circulated by email and the work carried out is dictated by how many turn up. An ability to light fires and put the world to rights comes in handy as well. The Army is a recognised organisation under the Parish Council but carries out work for whichever part of the Village community needs help.
A major area of work has been and will continue to be Project Chaffinch, which has its own page on this website.
The photograph shows regular members holding a recent planning meeting in the headquarters building (The Chequers).
If you are able to join the Army from time to time, please let John Daglish on 868557 know your email address (or phone number) and you will be added to the circulation.
